Cone – Non-Pressed Paper
The paper in this case has not been pressed, therefore it does not have a smooth look or feel to it. The advantage of non-pressed paper is that it’s more rigid and is able to handle the high power and functionality that the BB12D has to offer. You don’t want the cone of a subwoofer to have a flexible structure to it. The stiffer the cone is, the better sound quality you will receive.

Voice Coil – Black Anodized Aluminum
Anodizing is a process used to increase thickness of the layer on the surface of metal parts. This process increases corrosion resistance and wear resistance, and provides better adhesion for paint primers and glues than other bare metals.

Surround – Foam
Up until about 30 years ago, foam surrounds tended to deteriorate more quickly, but due to recent advancements, the average life span of standard foam surrounds is now about eight to 16 years. New foam formulas last much longer, keep the cone centered, and yield a high excursion (how much the cone needs to move back and forth). Foam is self damping (the ability to control undesirable movement of the speaker cone) and reduces its own standing waves. It is also very light and has a minimal effect on the motion of the cone. It can be mixed with other substances to produce different flex and strength properties.

Frame – Diecast Aluminum
A die-cast frame has better resonant frequencies than stamping speaker frames. This means that the frame is able to absorb and transfer much of the energy produced by the speaker so it doesn’t vibrate like a bell. Another advantage is that a die-cast frame is more durable and harder to damage or break. Diecast aluminum frames have high dimensional stability for complex shapes, good corrosion resistance, good mechanical properties, high thermal and electrical conductivity, and they retain strength at high temperatures.
